The Grand NYC

Official rules

Free to enter. No purchase necessary. No wagering. Decided by skill. No prize: you play for the standing.

01No purchase, no entry fee, no wagering

The Grand NYC is free to enter and free to play. No purchase is necessary, no entry fee is charged to players, and no wagers of any kind are accepted. Nothing you do in this contest can cost you money.

Free to enter and free to play. There is nothing to buy, and no payment of any kind affects scoring, standings, or the outcome.

02What you are playing

The free 4GRAND US Open pool. You pick match winners round by round in both the men's singles and the women's singles draw, and your points across the two add together to make one score on one leaderboard.

Anyone can play, on their own, with no club and nothing to pay. That is the whole thing.

03Who can enter

Open to anyone aged 18 or over with a valid mobile number that can receive text messages. One entry per person.

You do not need to belong to a tennis club. If you do play for one, see “Playing for a club” below.

04How to enter

Sign up at thegrand.nyc and pick your winners. You will be texted a code to confirm your number. That is the whole entry process.

You can join after the tournament has started. Picks open as each round is set, so you start scoring from the round you join.

05How scoring works

The pool is decided by the US Open. You pick match winners round by round in both the men's singles and the women's singles draw. Points from both draws add together to make your personal score.

Picks are made per round as each round is set, so you can join after the tournament has started and score from that point on. You cannot pick a match that has already been decided.

Scoring follows official results as reported by our tennis data provider. A match contributes nothing until it is resolved.

06Playing for a club

The Grand NYC previously ran as a contest between New York tennis clubs, scored on its own board. That contest is PAUSED for 2026. The board is kept as it finished and no club contest is running. Everyone plays the same free pool, ranked as individuals.

A club's score is the sum of its best 10 player scores. Its other players still play, and a better round moves anyone into the counting group.

A club must have at least 10 players who have submitted picks before it enters the main contest. Clubs below that appear in the qualifying section and join as soon as they reach 10, at any point during the tournament.

Ties are broken by the club's single best player score, then by the number of its players who have scored, then alphabetically.

07The prize

There is no prize. The club contest that awarded the Grand NYC cup is paused for 2026, so no trophy is being awarded this year.

There is no cash prize and no prize of any kind, to a player or to a club. You play for the standing and the bragging rights.

08Texts

We text you a code to sign in, and a short nudge when a new round opens. Round results are also posted in the pool. Reply STOP at any time to opt out. Message and data rates may apply.

09Fair play

One account per person. Creating multiple accounts to inflate a score, or entering under a club you have no connection to in order to distort the standings, may result in removal of those entries.

4GRAND may correct standings where a data provider issues a correction, and will do so openly.
